  2. The FSR Nutrient Management Field Day is September 14th. We will make use of the site and facilities of the Farm Science Review’s Molly Caren Agricultural Center, near London Ohio the week before that event. Check in at 8:30 for a 9 AM start and plan to end the day by 3PM.

    The number of individuals who have been trained for the Ohio Fertilizer Applicator Certification by Ohio State University Extension Agriculture and Natural Resources staff has reached 11,859 as of April 30, 2016. The ongoing training has generated a lot of positive response from farmers who attended. Requests have come in to make short review videos of key parts of the training available for review. The videos which range from 5 to 15 minutes in length have been posted to https://agcrops.osu.edu/video/fact-videos.

    In 2015, the Soil Fertility Lab at Ohio State started offering a third party evaluation of proprietary soil amendments and foliar applications aimed at improving the mineral nutrition and productivity of crops. This new service intends to provide timely and unbiased information on these products for farmers. In 2015, we tested submitted products from the following companies:

    Ohio State is looking for farmer cooperators and crop consultants to help conduct on-farm field trials this year. Updating fertilizer recommendations is a major undertaking that will require a collective effort from numerous OSU extension personnel, crop consultants and farmer cooperators. We will be looking specifically at N, P, K and S in corn, soybean and wheat. We hope to collect data from a large number of farms across the state and determine economically-optimum fertilization rates to maximize farmer profitability.
