    Agronomy specialists with The Ohio State University’s Extension will offer useful and valuable hands-on identification, training and management suggestions for late summer pests. This will be especially valuable for those in northern Ohio who were delayed in planting – pests may be looking to attack your crops. Monday, August 13, 2018 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. join OSU Entomology and Plant Pathology Specialists – Dr. Anne Dorrance, Dr. Kelley Tilmon, Dr. Andy Michel & Dr. Pierce Paul for hands-on training in scouting for diseases and insects in corn and soybean.

It will provide participants with the knowledge, skills and confidence to talk with tenants about farming and conservation practices used on their land. The farm management portion will provide an understanding of passing land on to the next generation and help establish fair rental rates by looking at current farm budgets.

    The Ohio Manure Science Review this year is near Forest, Ohio on the Watkins farm on July 25th. Learn how to avoid manure spills, limit spreading weeds with manure, and more. There will be demonstrations on surface runoff, soil health, side dressing manure, manure spreader calibration, and more.

    The Western ARS Agronomy Field Day will be held July 18th from 9 AM to 3 PM. No charge this year as we are soliciting sponsors to offset that cost. Lunch is included, and we will of course have our in-season updates as well as talk about some on-going research. The location is the Western Agricultural Research Station at 7721 So. Charleston Pike, South Charleston south of I-70 and just west of the Ohio 54 and SR 41 intersection or from the west exit from I-71 onto SR 41, south, drive about 4 miles and you will see the station on the right.

    RSVP to attend the July 17 Ohio AgriBusiness Association’s 4R Technology Review Field Day and earn CEUs.  The day features presentations by Dr. Steve Culman, Ohio State University; Glen Arnold, OSU Extension; Dr. Elizabeth Dayton, Ohio State University; and Lindsay Pease, USDA-ARS; as well as a panel of Blanchard River Demonstration Network farmers. Field demonstrations include ETS’ Soil Warrior, New Leader, Harvest International and John Deere.

    The OSU Weed Science Field Day will be held on July 11 at OARDC Western Ag Research Station at 7721 South Charleston Pike (SR41), South Charleston Ohio. As in previous years, it’s a mostly self-directed event and a chance to look at all of our research. The day runs from 9 to noon, followed by lunch for those who preregister. Feel free to bring anyone you like and to tell others, but please send an email to Bruce Ackley to preregister - ackley.19@osu.edu - telling him how many are coming so he can plan appropriately.
