Ohio State University Extension research has examined sulfur fertility across corn, soybean, and alfalfa production systems as atmospheric sulfur deposition has declined over the last several decades. Studies have found that sulfur deficiencies can occur on certain soils, particularly low-organic-matter, coarse-textured, and poorly supplied fields, but yield responses are often inconsistent and site-specific. As a result, sulfur applications are most likely to benefit crops where deficiency risk is high rather than as a routine fertilizer practice. In our plots, sulfur was applied perpinidcular to plots across northern half. Thank you to Heritage Co-op for donating alfalfa seed.
