Senate Bill One Meeting in Putnam County

Counties impacted by Senate Bill 1

The Putnam County SWCD and OSU Extension offices are hosting a “Senate Bill I: Guidelines and Rules for Manure Application” meeting on Monday evening, September 21, from 7 to 8:30 pm at the Putnam County Extension Office. Livestock producers and farmers interested in learning more about the winter restrictions on manure and commercial fertilizer application in the western Lake Erie basin are encouraged to attend.

Albert Maag, SWCD district technician, will present information on the new rules and how small or medium sized livestock producers can apply for a temporary exemption. The needed paperwork for the exemption is expected to be available at this meeting. The new rules are based on soil conditions (frozen or snow covered) instead of calendar dates. Information will also be available on funding sources for building manure storage. Jim Hoorman, Putnam County Extension Educator, will discuss choices for cover crops for late fall plantings.

The Putnam County Extension office address is 1206 East Second Street, Ottawa, Ohio 45875.

For more info contact the Putnam SWCD office at 419-523-5159. There is no cost to attend and preregistration is not required.
