Another successful year of Western bean cutworm (WBC) trapping has come to an end! We want to thank all of the extension educators for their time monitoring the traps, as well as the landowners for allowing us to place traps on their property. Overall, 26 counties in Ohio monitored WBC traps from the end of June through August. A total of 80 traps were monitored weekly with a grand total of 5,308 WBC trapped and an average of 7.9 moths per trap over the duration of the monitoring period (this was a decrease from 15,117 moths trapped with an AVG of 21 moths per trap in 2017). The peak week for WBC was the third week in July (July 15 through 21) with an average of 25 WBC/trap.
