Lep Monitoring Network Update #18 – Fall Armyworm Monitoring Starting Across Ohio

Lep Monitoring

Introduction

The Ohio Lep Network is in our 18th week of monitoring for agronomic pests across Ohio. This week we will provide an update on fall armyworm (FAW), corn earworm (CEW), and both variations of European corn borer (ECB - IA & NY). This will be our last week reporting on ECB and CEW as numbers are low across the state.

Fall Armyworm

We are in our second week of monitoring for the fall armyworm (FAW) in Ohio. Overall twenty counties monitored 61 traps across the state. The statewide average this week was 2.8 (the same as last week). Hardin County and Lucas County remain the only two counties with high FAW numbers, averages of 33.7 and 8, respectively. We will continue monitoring FAW number through September.

European Corn Borer

This is our 15th and final week reporting on European corn borer (ECB – IA & NY) populations across Ohio. This week, 8 counties monitored 21 ECB traps across the state. Overall, there were no reports of  ECB-IA or NY moths (Figure 3).
