Biography: 

Les has been with OSU Extension for over 16 years. His specializations are Agronomic Crop and Maple Syrup Production.  Les is a Certified Crop Adviser and works with farmers in the Western Reserve Education and Research Area. This includes multiple farm visits diagnosing and analyzing crop problems and presenting a variety of educational programs.  Over the last several years Les has been involved in statewide on-farm agronomic research projects including monitoring the movement of The Western Bean Cutworm, collecting soybean production data, weed surveys and soil nutrient studies. All of these projects are part of the work being done by the OSU Extension Agronomic Crops Team. This includes contributing to the weekly media publication, The Crop Observation and Research Network,  ( CORN Newsletter). During the growing season Les also puts a local spin on the CORN Newsletter Article’s in the NE Ohio Crop Weather Blog which is published bi-weekly.

On the Maple Syrup production side Les is the coordinator for Maple Syrup programing in NE Ohio. This not only includes presenting maple programs but also includes writing a column for the International Maple Industry trade publication, The Maple News and being the editor of the Ohio Maple Producers Association Newsletter.  Along with these two publications Les has put together a Maple Syrup Social Media Blog, entitled the Ohio Maple Blog, which keeps Ohio Maple Producer and others informed on the latest news and developments in maple syrup industry.
