Then make plans to join us for the 2024 Soil Health Webinar series on January 11, February 8, and March 7 at 8:00 a.m. This monthly series will feature farmers, industry, and academic experts weighing in on various soil health management systems.

  2. Join the Ohio State University Extension Water Quality Team for a field day sponsored by The Nature Conservancy on Thursday, July 20th, 2023. The event is being held in collaboration with Michigan State University Extension, USDA-ARS, and Cargill. This field day, held near New Bavaria, Ohio, will feature four breakout sessions and a keynote speaker focusing on design, implementation, and results from projects looking at different conservation practices.

    Improving soil health (SH) can provide a variety of benefits including improved water infiltration, increased water holding capacity, and increased nutrient availability. However, it can be challenging to quantify these benefits in the field.

    A series of Soil Health Workshops will be held on April 4th (Beginner) and April 6th (Advanced) at the Hardin County OSU Extension Office in Kenton. Jim Hoorman will be the main presenter. Hoorman has worked for OSU Extension for several years as a county extension educator in Putnam County and USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) in the Soil Health Division for Ohio and Michigan.

  6. The registration deadline for the Soil Health and Regenerative Ag event featuring Ray Archuleta in West Liberty, Ohio is quickly approaching.

    The February 24th event will kick off at 5:30 pm with dinner. The presentation will begin at 6:30 pm. Archuleta will discuss soil health and regenerative ag practices at the West Liberty Salem High School near West Liberty, Ohio. This is possible through the generous support of the Logan County Land Trust by the Lewis and Dorothy Tamplin Trust.

  7. Soil health has always been an important part of the sustainability of a farm. Each year we learn more about the conditions in which soils thrive and what BMPs can be implemented to ensure we are improving the soil, rather than degrading it.

  8. Cover crop mix in field.

    OSU Extension will host two educational field days focused on soil health and cover crops next week. Extension specialists and farmers experienced with cover crops will present on topics including inter-seeding cover crops into a growing crop, terminating cover crops, cover crop variety selection, and more. Field demonstrations, cover crop plots, and equipment demonstrations will be on-site.

    Paulding County Extension will be hosting two events in Northwest Ohio in August: a soil health tour and a follow-up event with a guest speaker. The soil health tour includes stops around Northwest Ohio showcasing different practices to help improve soil health. A map of tour stops can be found at go.osu.edu/soilhealthtour and will be updated as tour stops are confirmed. The tour stops will be accessible from Friday, August 13th to Thursday, August 19th.
