    Join OSU Extension’s water quality team on January 29th, February 26th, and March 26th for their fifth annual webinar series, Water Quality Wednesdays. This webinar series is held from 10:00AM to 11:30AM on the last Wednesday of the month, via Zoom. Each webinar offers a standalone topic and speakers focusing on a different aspect of water quality and agriculture. Live webinars will offer 1.5 CEUs to Certified Crop Advisers (CCAs), and relevant webinar topics will provide CEUs to Certified Livestock Managers (CLMs).

    Are you a conservationist, environmentalist, or agriculturalist who wants to work with agricultural producers make a difference in local water quality? If so, consider joining OSU Extension as a Water Quality Extension Associate! This position is based in Tiffin, Ohio at the Seneca County Extension Office. The position covers 5 counties in the Western Lake Erie Basin: Seneca, Sandusky, Crawford, Wyandot, and Erie.

  4. Save the date! On Wednesday, July 31st, 2024, the OSU Extension Water Quality Team will be hosting their second annual field day focused on agricultural conservation practices. This year’s theme is “Cover Crop ‘Til You Drop!”, and will be focused on all things cover crops, including economics, research results, programs available for funding, as well as how this practice impacts soil health and water quality. This event will be free to attend thanks to support from Cargill and sponsorship from The Nature Conservancy.

    Nutrient runoff and algal blooms are a growing problem while fertilizer costs are at an all-time high. Best Management Practice (BMP) Field Day is an event to address these problems and offer solutions for farmers, students, and community members interested in attending. BMP Field Day is a full day event to learn more about Phosphorus usage, the environment, and strategies to save on fertilizer. BMP Field Day will be held in-person March 29th at the Secrest Welcome Center at the Ohio Agricultural Research & Development Center in Wooster, Ohio.

    Join OSU’s Water Quality Extension Associates for their annual winter webinar series focusing on the interaction between agriculture and water quality. These webinars will take place monthly from January to March 2023 on the last Wednesday of each month. Each webinar will have knowledgeable speakers and will offer continuing education credits (CEUs) for Certified Crop Advisers (CCAs). Topics in 2023 will be cover crops and wetlands. There is no cost to attend these webinars, but registration is required to receive the connection link.

  7. OSU Extension will host three Agriculture Breakfast meetings for different watersheds in Paulding, Putnam, Allen, and Van Wert counties in April. These meetings are places for producers and landowners to chat about water quality conservation, including funding and research opportunities in local watersheds. Breakfast will be provided, but an RSVP is required. The first meeting is this week, Thursday April 7th at the Putnam County Extension Office from 7:30 AM – 9:00 AM.

  8. Join the Ohio State University Water Quality Extension Associates for the next installment of the Water Quality Wednesday Webinar Series on February 16th. This webinar will focus on Nitrogen’s behavior and movement in soil, in-season Nitrogen recommendations, as well as utilizing the Maximum Return to Nitrogen (MRTN) tool. Speakers featured are OSU’s own Dr. John Fulton, professor and extension specialist in the Department of Food, Agricultural, and Biological Engineering, Dr.

Join the Ohio State University’s Water Quality Extension Associates for a webinar series discussing topics related to water quality, ranging from Phosphorus and agricultural Best Management Practices (BMPs) to watershed planning and technology. Webinars will run from December 2021 to March 2022 and will be recorded for later viewing. All live WQW webinars will offer Certified Crop Advisor continuing education credits, and relevant topics will provide Certified Livestock Manager credits.

  10. Water quality concerns continue to be at the forefront of environmental-impact discussions across many industries. Since agriculture occupies much of the land area in Ohio, adapting farming operations to include “best management practices” has been an area of focus for agricultural producers, governmental agencies and other stakeholders working to contribute to solutions. As water quality concerns remain, so do opportunities for reviewing the current research and considering adopting practices that work for your situation.
